Directions for Use

  1. Shake or stir this product before use, then apply with a clean, lint-free cotton wiping cloth, wetting the cloth until it is damp but not dripping.
  2. Starting at one end of the mold, wipe a generous wet film over a 91 x 91 cm area, repeating until the mold is completely covered.
  3. Allow the film to haze, or dry, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes at 21°C with good ventilation.
  4. Check the mold for any uncoated regions where haze is not present, and reapply product to those areas as needed.
  5. Polish the coated mold with a clean, lint-free cotton wiping cloth until a high gloss is obtained, changing the cloth frequently so wax build-up is not re-deposited on the mold.
  6. Repeat the above steps three more times to give a total of four coats, allowing the Frekote resin to seal any mold pores and build sufficient film thickness for multiple releases.
  7. Once the final film has been polished, the mold is ready for use.

For large molds greater than 305 x 305 cm, polishing is generally easier when coating and polishing are done in stages, working section by section until the entire mold is coated. Application at mold temperatures above 35°C may cause streaking.

Why the Wax and Polymer Combination Matters

Standard semi-permanent release agents can be difficult to apply evenly because the film is not always visible during application, which makes complete mold coverage harder to confirm. Because LOCTITE FREKOTE Frewax incorporates a wax into the formulation, fabricators can see the wet film as they apply it, which helps confirm full coverage before the haze and polish steps.

The four-coat build-up is also relevant for fabricators running multiple parts off the same mold, since a thicker sealed film supports more release cycles before re-application is needed, which is one of the ways this product is positioned to reduce mold preparation labor over a production run.

What to Consider When Sourcing LOCTITE FREKOTE Frewax

When sourcing a mold release wax for composite tooling, fabricators typically evaluate ease of application, film visibility during coating, number of coats required, and compatibility with their mold surface and molding temperature. Working with a supplier that can provide consistent documentation and responsive technical support can help reduce qualification time when approving a new release product for a production line.

Because streaking can occur if this product is applied at mold temperatures above 35°C, buyers should confirm their mold surface temperature and workshop conditions before scheduling a mold preparation run.

General Handling and Storage Guidance

As with most mold release products, this product should be kept in its original, tightly sealed container, stored in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and used within the manufacturer’s recommended shelf life.

Shelf life and specific storage recommendations vary by batch and packaging format, so fabricators should always confirm current shelf life, recommended storage conditions, and any handling precautions against the latest technical data sheet and SDS for the specific batch of LOCTITE FREKOTE Frewax they are working with.
