Neogel 8373-W-9735 Selection Guide
Neogel® 8373-W-9735 is a strong fit for marine and water-immersion composite parts where blister resistance and weathering performance are critical, such as boat hulls, swimming pools, sanitary ware and furniture requiring good weatherability. Choose the spray type (Neogel® 8373-W-XXXX UV) for production spray application, or the brush type (Neogel® 8373-W-XXXX UVH) for repair and touch-up work. Paraffinated versions are available on request for applications requiring reduced styrene emission during cure. For comparison, see related AOC gelcoat grades Neogel® 8373-W-9124 and Neogel® 8373-W-9512. Contact our technical team with your application method and part geometry for grade confirmation.
Understanding Blister Resistance and Weatherability in Neogel 8373-W-9735
Blister resistance and weatherability are two of the most commercially significant properties formulators reference when selecting a marine gelcoat, since both defects are highly visible and costly to repair after a part is in service. Osmotic blistering develops when water slowly penetrates the gelcoat surface and reacts with soluble residues in the underlying laminate, so a gelcoat like Neogel 8373-W-9735 that is engineered for good resistance to long water immersion is specifically positioned to reduce this risk on hulls, pool shells, and other continuously wet structures.
Weatherability, and specifically resistance to yellowing, matters most on exterior surfaces exposed to UV light and outdoor weathering over years of service, which is why boat builders and manufacturers of outdoor furniture and sanitary ware pay close attention to this property when comparing gelcoat grades. Compliance with recognized standards such as ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Z-124-1 for sanitary ware, together with DNV Italia and Italian RINA marine approvals, gives buyers a documented basis for qualifying Neogel 8373-W-9735 against classification society and regulatory requirements rather than relying on general marketing claims alone.
Because gel time, cure behavior, and film build can vary with shop temperature and catalyst level, fabricators evaluating Neogel 8373-W-9735 for a new hull, pool, or sanitary ware production run should confirm the recommended MEKP dosage and film thickness against their own spray or brush application setup before committing to a full production schedule.
