Neogel A400TV-F-9905: A Flame-Retardant Gelcoat for Boatbuilding
Neogel A400TV-F-9905 is a flame-retardant gelcoat formulated for marine and other applications where fire performance is a design requirement. It offers low smoke density, good weatherability, solid mechanical properties, and a durable finish, making it a practical choice for boat builders and other composite manufacturers who need to meet flame-retardant specifications without sacrificing surface quality.

Benefits
Neogel A400TV-F-9905 has excellent flame-retardancy, low smoke density, good weather ability and mechanical properties, as well as a durable finish. These properties make it suitable for interior and exterior boat parts where fire safety regulations apply.
Applications
Neogel A400TV-F-9905 is pre-accelerated thixotropic, ready for use and available in a wide range of colours, in the following types:
• Spray type (Neogel A400TV-F-9905)
• Brush type (Neogel A400TV-F-9905 H)
The Spray type can be applied with the conventional equipment with these recommended settings: hand spray gun nozzle 2.5-4.0 mm, pressure 7-8 bars.
The brush or roller types can be applied according to the following schedule: two coats leaving the first coat to cure completely (2 hrs at 20°C).
In order to obtain optimum performance it is advisable to operate as follows:
• Temperature between 18°C and 25°C
• Cure with recommended MEKP* 50% solution, adjust amount between 1.0-2.5%
• Thickness of the film 600-800g/m²
*Butanox M50 (Akzo Nobel)
This flame-retardant gelcoat is commonly specified alongside fire-retardant resin systems for marine and boatbuilding projects.
Why Flame Retardancy Matters in Marine Gelcoats
Marine vessels, particularly passenger and commercial craft, are frequently subject to fire safety codes that specify flame spread, smoke density, and heat release limits for interior and structural composite materials. This gelcoat is formulated to help boat builders meet those criteria while retaining a durable finish suitable for visible surfaces. Buyers evaluating flame-retardant gelcoat systems for a new build may find it useful to reference general composite fire-testing guidance published by industry standards bodies such as the ASTM D20 Committee on Plastics.
Selecting a Flame-Retardant Gelcoat for Your Project
Buyers sourcing a flame-retardant gelcoat for the first time should confirm the specific fire safety code or classification their project must meet, since flame-retardant formulations are not all rated to the same standard. Neogel A400TV-F-9905 is designed to deliver flame-retardant performance alongside the weatherability and mechanical properties expected of a standard marine gelcoat, so builders do not need to trade off surface durability to meet fire safety requirements. Our technical team can help confirm whether this grade fits a given project specification before ordering.
Packaging and Shipping
Neogel A400TV-F-9905 is available in both spray and brush grades and can be packaged to match project volume requirements. Our team can advise on packaging options, lead times, and supply chain resource support for buyers sourcing this product for boatbuilding projects.
