ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR

Product Overview

ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR is a water-based, nonionic HEUR rheology modifier designed primarily to build high-shear viscosity in waterborne coating formulations. It is commonly selected when formulators require improved flow, leveling, film build and gloss while maintaining easy incorporation during paint production.

The product can be used as a sole rheology modifier in selected high-gloss acrylic systems or combined with a KU-efficient thickener to obtain a more balanced viscosity profile.

Selection Guidance

ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR is generally reviewed when high-shear viscosity, flow, leveling and finished-film appearance are important. It is especially suitable for waterborne paints requiring a relatively Newtonian rheology profile.

When additional KU viscosity or sag control is required, RM-2020 NPR can be evaluated together with a KU-efficient rheology modifier such as ACRYSOL™ RM-8W or RM-12W. Final selection and dosage should be confirmed through formulation testing based on binder type, pigment loading, application method and target KU and ICI viscosity.

ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR vs. RM-8W and RM-12W

ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR vs. RM-8W: ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR is primarily used to build high-shear viscosity and support flow, leveling, gloss and film build. ACRYSOL™ RM-8W is generally evaluated for KU viscosity development. The two products may be used together when a formulation requires a better balance between application viscosity and sag resistance.

ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR vs. RM-12W: RM-2020 NPR is mainly selected for high-shear viscosity and finished-film appearance, while RM-12W is commonly used to strengthen KU viscosity. Selection should be based on the required rheology profile rather than treating the products as direct substitutes.

Recommended Applications

FAQ

What is ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR used for?

It is mainly used as a high-shear HEUR rheology modifier in water-based architectural and industrial coatings.

Is ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR a HEUR thickener?

Yes. It is a nonionic hydrophobically modified ethylene oxide urethane rheology modifier.

Can RM-2020 NPR be used as the only thickener?

It may be used as a sole thickener in selected high-gloss acrylic formulations, but it is also commonly evaluated with a KU-efficient rheology modifier.

Can ACRYSOL™ RM-2020 NPR be diluted with water?

The supplied liquid can be diluted with water when required by the formulation and production process.

Can you provide TDS, SDS and COA?

Current technical and safety documentation can be requested from our sales team.
